WHERE DO EXTENSIONS COME FROM
I don’t know about you but sometimes, I would like to ask Rapunzel what she used to get her hair to grow like that. Seriously. I wouldn’t have to rely on hair extensions and other clever tricks to give me the hair of my dreams. But unfortunately we are not all well gifted in that area, so we have to cheat a little.
Brazilian hair, Peruvian hair, Russian hair… Unicorn hair? Where does it all come from, really? Are you lost in the sea of diversity that the world of hair extensions offers you? Let’s see where hair extensions actually really come from.
I am saying “actually” because you didn’t really think that Brazilian hair came from Brazil, right? Oh… you did?? Well, erm…. sorry to burst your bubble here. I’ll come back to Brazilian hair in a minute. The most requested hair extensions are made of Russian hair, Russian/Mongolian hair mix, Brazilian hair, with Cambodian and Indian hair tagging along. Indian hair has lost its pole position since so many options are now available.Indian hair is widely available due to its harvesting/collection method. It almost exclusively comes from Temples in India who basically resell pilgrims hair for a profit (it’s a long story cut very short).
Russian hair is a little bit more complicated. There are no such rituals in Russia where ladies go and have their hair cut in a temple, so it, therefore, makes Russian hair very expensive and pretty rare as the demand is higher than the supply. If you are able to get your hands on real, authentic Russian hair, it will set you back of couple of hundred pounds and even thousands. No joke.
Now…. Brazilian hair. I admire the power advertising has on many of us. Just as Russian hair, Brazil does not have hair cutting rituals for religious reasons, and therefore, if Brazilian hair existed, it would be pretty expensive.
